It all started on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when an armistice or cease-fire went into effect between Germany and the Allied nations. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was memorialized for the first time when President Wilson declared the day to be “filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory.” Then in 1938, November 11th became the National holiday known as Armistice Day as a way to honor those who fought in World War I. It wasn’t until 1954 that it became Veteran’s Day to honor all American veterans no matter where or when they served.
Arming Heroes, the collection industry’s charity for military vets, has its annual fundraiser from September 11 – Veteran’s day, November 11th. The annual drive always begins at 8:46 AM EST, the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center on September 11th, 2001 and ends at 11:00 AM on Veterans Day.
The money raised during ARMing Hero’s 4th annual drive goes to fund the No Debts for Vets grant-making program. To find out more information about the incredible veterans that have received grants from this organization, check out their stories at the link below.
Next Monday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day. If you would like to make a difference in the life of a Veteran and would like your contribution to count in this year’s fundraiser, I encourage you to please make your tax-deductible donation before the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month at http://www.armingheroes.org.
